Has anyone used ZAR stain? I used it for the first time today and it was awful. I usually use minwax or Bona, but prefer minwax. The zar would not spread or buff off easily. It was the 550 voc and said 800 sqft/quart, (I new there was no way). The job was about 1000sqft and a flight of stairs and I used 4 quarts. I stirred it well, but there were globs of stain stuck in the bottom of the cans. I have stained many floors, and do it by hand buffing, but have never had a problem spreading stain. It was like putting paint, or elmers glue on the floor and trying to spread it. It came out blotchy and just looks awful. Anyone else have experience with zar?

Never used it, sounds like all the pigment and solids went to the bottom. You've really got to keep mixing it until theres nothing on the bottom.

What kinda wood?

used it never had a problem..it does go quite far...

it is a gel stain....surface prep and some thinning necessary....

your wipe up needs t be thorough to make it even as it sits on top more..nothin like minwax..
but it is a good stain..

Most VOC stains are thick as pudding and hard to spread. Minwax VOC stains are equally hard to work with. For this reason I continue to buy quarts of old formula stains. I wont use the VOC compliant stuff.
