Maple, because of it's density will present sanding signature more than that of oak.
I like to shine a hologen light accross the floor before we put the machine away, circle any swirl with a pencil and work it out.
We water pop all of our stain jobs as products don't seem to penetrate as deeply today as they did a decade ago.
We use Bona dri-fast stains as we KNOW they will be dry the next day (I don't trust the 3 hour dry claim.)
Still....advise you customers that Maple, (like Pine) can stain unevenly, even with a grain raise procedure prior to staining.
