Only have an inch and a quarter left on my last row of engeneered hardwood, can someone tell me how I can finish this off. Do they have wide quarter round?

Rip it to the necessary width and glue it down. Did you think the flooring would magically fit perfectly without having to cut it? 1&1/4" quarter round would look absolutely stupid.

As Gary says, using your table saw, you cut the board lengthwise to fit the space remaining, leaving your proper expansion tolerance. Glue it in place with urethane glue, or use light guage brad nails.

A piece that small, I also use PVA glue, in the groove, or on the tongue. Use blue masking tape to hold it there for about 12 hours, until it sets up.

I'll tell you the trick I learned (here of all places!) that served me very well. I actually did this for the last full row AND the remaining strip at the same time, securing both rows so they would all be tight and snug.

1) rip the correct sized pieces on a table saw, leaving the normal gap between the piece and the wall. Rip the whole length of the wall that you need to fit all at once, so you can lay it all at the same time.
2) undercut the drywall if need be - it can give you a little more working room for those cases where you have a tiny strip.
3) drill nail holes roughly evenly spaced, every 6" to 8", aim for the knots in the wood since the nail holes are harder to see there.
4) Dry Fit - MAKE SURE the board fits DRY, BEFORE gooping it up with PL450 or whatever glue you're using. If you skip this step, I can guarantee you'll find that one of the pieces isn't quite right, but then you'll have glue all over everything!
5) get/make a bunch of wedges out of wood ( I had some plastic wedges from the last click-lock floor I installed).
6) here's where it gets fun... put a strip of glue on the back of the first piece and slide it into place without getting glue all over your nice finished surface. Use the wedges to snug it up TIGHT against the field. Pound them in with a mallet if necessary. Continue to do this along the whole length of the wall - when you're done you'll have that last skinny row wedged tightly into place and glued down.
7) Now use your face nails to go in through the pre-drilled holes. Since the wedges are holding it in place, the planks will stay nice and tight against the field and the nails will hold it to the floor, until the glue dries. The next day you can pull the wedges and it will look great!

Hope that helps!

- Bob

My way is MUCH faster. But since I'm a professional and need to earn a living, I'm not telling any of you. Let's just say I don't waste my time with what some of you are doing. Not that it's wrong. What all of you are proposing is fine. It's just that some of it is too time consuming, that's all.

Ya Gary, sometimes shortcuts we use in the industry dont really transfer well to the DIY world.
I think it is better for the able consumer to follow the "by the book" rules instead of trying to use a method we have developed from years of experience.

You guys that get to do this for a living are lucky. Satisfying work - ends up with a long lasting piece of art if done right.
