contractor refinished hardwood floors dark instead of light. Rest of house has light floors. Contractor says they used a clear oil based polyurathane. I want floors light ( like a clear coat on bare wood). Floor is very red and grain screams. Floors are a mixture of white oak and red oak. What should have been used to keep a very light color? AND ... How can this be fixed ??

The only way to change the color is to resand the floors. When I refinish floors for customers, I typically make a sample board to show them what the floors will look like. Or I'll put the color on a spot on the actual floor. Did you approve a color?
