Hi all,

Could I get away with laying down 1/2" ply over my slab and then putting down a 3/8" solid red oak floor? I want to do a nail down and I think a 1" powercleat might just clear (would be close)

Of course I know everyone recommends a 3/4" subfloor, and I'd love to do that but it's going to cause some real problems with transitions. This application would only apply to our weird sunken den. Originally when we bought the flooring (months back) we had planned on doing a glue down over the slab with one of the new all-on-one glues... but after doing some more research I think i'd rather just go with the old tried and true nail down.

Hoping someone can tell me weather i'm asking for trouble or not with 1/2" ply.

You would have to use the all in one adhesive to glue the ply down anyway, unless you want to try plastic under it and blowing thousands of nail holes through the membrane. I've never really been able to grasp the logic of that concept. Just glue it.
