Hi,

New here. We have installed wood flooring before over subflooring.

However, we are interested in knowing if we can install a new wood directly over a previously laid, prefinished oak flooring. It is a small area 90 sq ft and we just don't want the mess of having to remove the old wood, glued and all to the slab.

thanks,
Lesli

Nope, it is not recommended, since there is concrete under there.

If the first floor is engineered, go for it. If it is solid, take it up. Installing over engineered is identical to installing over glued down plywood. Its no big whoop.

I could understand how a professional flooring service would definitely take up the old flooring for a myriad of their own reasons, but I couldn't see how this engineered flooring would be any different than taking it up and putting in subflooring. I mean it has a moisture barrier under it already.

I appreciate your input.

What type of moisture barrier?
