Hi everyone,

We are planning to install a strand wooven bamboo floating flooring. We are on concrete slab and my husband has back problems, so we are looking for a way to "soften" the floor. He wanted to do nail down installation but that seems like a lot of work and I wanted floating installation.

He did not want to have "hollow" areas and still though that installation over concrete directly will be too hard.

So questions - we reached a compromise - we will install 1/4 underlayment under the floor and we will also add the padded underlayment between the wood and the floating floor..

Now reading things online I can't seem to find anyone using 1/4. Any thoughts? I would rather not raise the floor as much as another quarter, by going with 1/2".

Also what would be the best way to attach the 1/4 (I am guessing CDX boards) to the concrete?

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi there,
If you are still thinking about doing the floating floor over concrete here is a useful advise for you from experienced installer.
First of all, you have to make sure your subfloor is flat enough. If there are too low or too high areas you could level up with this:

Now you would need the underlayment that is not too soft, otherwise you would be walking over your floating floor like you are walking on the sponge. In your case I would go ahead with 1/4" cork. It will give you good amortization plus it's 100% natural material. And you should lay down between cork and concrete moisture barrier it could be 4 mill plastic.
You may also use MP Global Quiet Walk Underlayment. It's cheaper than cork and plus you don't need any additional moisture barrier. Here you can purchase it:

No need for any additional 1/4" plywood over concrete!!!

Good luck with your project!
