Hello
I'm going to be installing an Oak pre-finished floor. Here in Wisconsin we have been experiencing a very cold winter. Having two humidifiers pumping all day long, I've managed to keep the relative humidity in the house between 38% - 40% while acclimating for the past 10 days. When I take moisture measurements of the flooring and sub-floor. I'm reading 2% and 1%. Is the wood still too dry for me to go ahead with the installation? How long should it take for the wood to absorb moisture?

Thank you in advance
Nick

what kind of meter are you using? Most wont read that low, mine wont go under 5. Anyway, You will either have to increase the number and size of the humidifiers, turn down the heat some, wait till spring or space the floor.
Ive read if you heat air at 30deg at 50rh and heat it to 70 it drops the r/h to 10%. So it can be very difficult to get there without starting to makeyour windows sweat.

Thanks for the reply. Your correct about the meter. I didn't realize that. I looked up the specs of my meter it measures between 5 - 40%. I may have more moisture in there then I thought. From what I've read, I probably need to get it up to around 8%.

the wood from manufacturer. is kiln dried to 8% as a standard..

you initial readings are false.

If you have a temperature setting in your meter , make sure it is set to default 70 degrees F

Pin meter or scanner? Professional grade or some cheapo thing from a box store? Species correction chart? Pins inline with the grain?
