We're planning to have glue down hardwood floors professionally installed over 40 year old terrazzo that's been covered with carpet for goodness knows how many years. We're in Tampa, FL if the climate information helps.
After spending hours reading posts here and at other boards (thanks for such a great resource) I'm hoping to get some clarification...
1. Considering that this is 40 year old terrazzo, covered with carpet, shouldn't moisture concerns normally associated with a concrete floor be a moot point? Or am I missing something here?
2. I've read that gluing down solid hardwood isn't a great idea in most cases, but I've also been told that the BR-111 is a reputable company and that they approve gluedown of their 7/16" solid. Is this truly an exception to the rule? Anyone have any advice or even better, experience, with this type of installation?
3. We've considered the BR-111 engineered products, but they seem to have a thinner wear layer than most every other company I've considered. While it's my fondest hope to never do so - we do plan to be here for another 20 years and I'd like to know that I can refinish the floors once or twice if we had to. Is this possible with the BR-111 engineered?
We need to make a decision on these floors this week, so some educated feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
