Just booked a 15,000 sq ft commercial project. We have done some commercial stuff, but I don't recall ever having to deal with door jambs that were metal. How do you guys deal with these? Undercut with a metal blade on the jamb saw or??

I have run into that, out here fire code says they should be down to the substrate, besides you can start a fire undercutting them. I've simply glued some QR to the casing. It would be best if you could talk the GC into leaving them off until your done.

Thanks a lot for the replies guys. I probably would have asked that. But I just seen the project for the first time the other day and unfortunately they were already up.

Thats what I kind of thought to do. The door jambs are a dark gray color and I figured I could maybe get some black or gray caulk. Thanks for the tip.

Match the wood with colorite, and use the bluetape and chisel trick.

That's a lot of footage. What type of time frame are you under?

I am not familiar with colorite. Can you give me some more info on that? I am hoping we can have a month to do it. We also are tiling 6 bathrooms and a couple break rooms.

Color Rite is great stuff, you can match the product to a T... Lay down some blue tape on the floor, and the jamb.....and smooth it level with a chisel, flat with the floor...pull the tape..Walla..looks like the woods growing out of the jamb.

Thanks for the info on that. If the timeline is tighter than that I just might take you guys up on that. I was just talking to a friend back in Illinois who may also be coming to help.

You should really try the cork before caulking :P  It even sands off pretty good.

Parka??? Oh yeah, it might be to cold for me up there.
