Ok, before I get kicked out of the forum for asking a stair related question, part of my stair project includes hardwood planks. With that said this is my question: I have a unique stairway that is open on 3 sides, it also has a landing that is triangle shaped that is also open on 3 sides, the widest side is about 4' and narrows to about 8" with the actual stair opening at 4'. I have purchased landing treads/ stair nosing to go on each open side of the landing, it is red oak with a groove to accept flooring planks. My dilemma is this, I am using 3 1/2" x 3/4" flooring planks for the landing and I am going to attatch one side of the flooring to the landing tread using tounge of the flooring, however the other side of the landing floor will have to be cut to length, so I will be cutting off the grooved side which Eliminates being able to use a biscuit to attach the 2 grooved sides together. What is the best way to attach the cut side of the flooring to the grooved side of the landing tread? I am thinking that I will need to cut a new groove into the flooring but I have never done this and the only tools I have access to are a table saw, miter saw, skill saw, and dremel. Any advice of suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
