I was considering putting down some wood flooring in my trailer. And I was thinking about just adding it over some luan that would be put over the carpeting.
Would this be a good idea or a really bad one?

I've seen some threads about how it's better to pull carpeting out because of possible mold/mildew causing allergies and so on.

I need some feedback about this, thanks so much in advance.

That would probably cause the wood to split if it was spongy underneath wouldn't it?

Do you think I could get away with putting some kind of support under the wood flooring but above the carpet?

I'm just concerned that I will lose so much warmth without something under the wood being that it's a mobile home.

Thanks for the reply.

Wood is a very good insulator. It is a very bad idea to install wood flooring over that carpet so the carpet must come out. If you wanted some cushion and more insulating properties, consider a floating floor designed to be installed over a specific pad/cushion/underlayment. Our host sells many types here.

I've never heard of a floating floor. I will check it out.
Thanks for the reply.

I'm sort of iffy about hearing you install it in a trailer. Do you plan on ever moving the trailer or etc.? Trailers are meant to be towed if necessary and are built to do so. I could see a lot of problems if you chose to do otherwise.

It's a mobile home with a permanently affixed addon that makes it double wide. It can't be moved so I'm not worried about that problem.
I still need to look into the floating floor. Lowes wasn't much of a help when I asked them for some ideas.

You shouldn't be shopping at Lowe's for information about wood floors.

1. Remove the carpet and cushion.
2. Clean the floor.
3. Install floating floor. You can find good selection on this site.

Thanks guys, the project begins next weekend. I'll let ya know how it turns out. I am going to do a small room for testing it out. If all goes well, I'll rock and roll through the rest of the place.

Cheers!
