Hi all,
I need some help how to fix these cracks.
My floor has been sanded and refinished about 2yrs ago.
Minwax oil base Ebony stain then top coated with water based polyurethane (satin). All done by my contractor.

Some of the edge of the board are start peeling out as you can see in the pictures.
I bought the small can of ebony and want to touch them up, but I want to get some advice from you guys first.
I was thinking put the wood putty to fill the gap first? or stain them first?

Pretty common for filler to pop out like that. The finish looks really thin to me. Excellent pictures! I can see scratch pattern across the grain even. Course could be wear.

I think you need a do over and re-stain with a heavier build of finish. But that thick of a filler may pop out again.

Thanks!
I have my contractor to do 2 layers of the polyurethane. I am not sure if he lied to me and just did one layer after the stain. I see a little spot that is without a satin finish.

So what should I do to re-fill those crack?
Stain with the ebony first? and the use the polyurethane to finish it?
or should I use the putty to fill the crack and then stain it and polyurethane it?
thanks again!

First the finish has to be sanded off then putty then finish the sanding and buffing then stain and finally finish. I always use 3 coats of poly. But before you do anything I would find another floorguy, that is a terrible job eith all the swirl marks and dust bumps.

thanks for your reply.

I can just sand off the spot where I need to patch?
I can't re-sand the whole floor now cuz I have all the furnitures and stuff.
This will be a lot of works if I redo it.

I am afraid that if I put the poly over the spot and I will see the extra layer on the un-sanded area?
