I installed Prefinished hardwood floors, and in the foyer area the wood Butts up to the bottom of the stairs. The issue is that the stairs are not square and there is a 3/4 inch gap in the middle, none on the left side, and about a 1/4 inch gap on the right. What do you guys recommend to do to get a nice finished look? Quarter round? Pull the carpet up and put something in to bring the carpet out? Rip a board and try to tuck it tight?

You have the idea. Add something to the bottom of first riser so the carpet extends over the gapped area. Remove the existing tack strip, add a thin strip of material across the width at the bottom of riser and reattach carpet tack strip, stretch tuck and done.

Me...you gotta be kidding me. That goes back to the days when I actually wanted to learn the trade. But thankfully nobody wanted to spend the time to teach me. Spent six months nailing strip, and padding...Oh yea, I was an official scrap picker upper too. I did venture into tucking carpet at the end...what a thrill 8-)

Oh well, the lead guy always had beer in the cooler when we left the job site. So there was a bright side to the story.
