Hello,

In the kitchen, several feet away from the sink we have 2 boards running side by side and they meet at a peak in the middle. It is very noticable. Any ideas on what causes this?

Looks to me moisture related. Possibly a leak traveling under the floor, from the sink area, dishwasher, or icemaker.

Hmmm, no cupping...but then does there need to be cupping with a moisture issue that creates movement? Is it is a subfloor seam? Floor giving way at the most convenient space that has a lack of fasteners.

Nice image ya got there. Gee, hows come mine don't work when I use the image src thing.

Could be anything including locked up under/against the cabinets or dishwasher. No expansion space.

Don't you guys see a slight cup where the corners sticking up?

When somethings locked in, I usually have seen the peak all the way accross the length of the seam.

How long has the floor been down?

And maybe a picture from further away would help.

I see an end joint sticking up a bit. You know what that means....

Cupping to the right of the peak Howard? I kind see it. Maybe it's about to tent as well. OMG could be some compression set around the bend.

Wonder if the installer reversed direction there, and used a sloppy spline to connect the two rows?
I really dont see any cupping (old eyes doncha know) so the floor may be under slight compression and failed at the weakest point.

I still see a slight cup and swell or lift. Time for a moisture meter. Even a cheapie one will trace the problem.

Thanks, maybe I will try the meter. The crawl space is humid with droplets of water coming off the air duct insulation. Not sure why it is mostly located there though. Even if it has high moisture I have to find out why.I did take a couple other photos . . .

Oh ya, no question about that now. However is that an engineered floor? It appears the top fillets are lifting, and from water above, I think. Please identify the product, eng or solid, one strip, or three strip, etc.

The efforescense collected or coming up through in the seams, and the way the grey discolorations look ,leads me to believe the water is from underneath. Plus most of the time if it's a topical condition the problem isn't limited to one location, unless it's a dog bowl, plant , or the like.

It is those observations that lead me to think that its coming from above, lol. I am wondering what sort of water penetration from under the floor could be so localized that it would appear in such a specific location. (A geyser perhaps?)
I dunno, was thinking a major spill. Given its proximity to the sink, a pot of spaghetti on its way to being drained?
Will have to wait for more info from the poster.
