Hi, we ordered Millstead hardwood 3/4" solid from Home Depot and the installer had to stop installation because the width variance on the 4 inch wide pieces of flooring was too great and causing gaps which could not be cosmetically filled with putty. Store took back product and reordered from manufacturer and told me they were getting the new product from a different lot. Well, the new wood arrived, we acclimated it as we did the first batch and this second installer had to stop as well. People from the store came over to look and took the wood back. Problem now is that this is the wood we want - width, type of wood and finish - we are willing to be delayed again but don't want more problems.

Has anyone had this problem?

Any suggestions for when we go back to the store to discuss reordering?

I think the manufacturer should be all over this - it appears that Millstead is a store trademark so the store should be very interested in getting this fixed.

With the large number of hardwood manufacturers these days I don't see why you can't find another source. Is there anything unique about this one. Color? Appearance?

Can't find an alternative at home depot. They suggested switching but we should be able to get what we want especially since they are still taking orders

If their milling is consistantly poo why would you think the next batch will be better. You should be asking for an enourmous discount for inconvienience should you stick with them. Otherwise find an installer that has an account at your local Prosource where they sell quality name brand hardwood and not branded foreign made junk. Just think about the installers losing all that time....time lost = money lost.

Exactly, stop looking at Home Depot, and go to a actual flooring store. What is the species of wood that you can't find another source of.

And not Lumber L either or something cheap online If financing is an issue lots of other places have the same financing. If they say they will not take it back it's baloney because they failed in their agreement to provide you with a quality flooring twice now.

I do not see why you should have a problem with finding an alternative as there are a huge amount of lumber available in stores. I would have thought that you are getting something with specific specs in color and appearance that is why you are having a hard time but just for straight up alternative to it, no way. I suggest that you look for a better supplier and where you probably checked for is not that valued.

Definitely consider going to an actual flooring provider like Pro Source or equivalent. Another alternative is to have a contractor install 4 inch unfinished flooring and site sand and finish it. I almost always run into problems with pre finished flooring.Sometimes it is the milling, sometimes it is the lack of long lengths but it's always something.

Maybe ask your local contractor for a recommendation on a better source for flooring in your area.Home Depot and similar mega stores never excel in any one area .
