I am having wide plank pine installed on 3/4" advantec sub floor, on crawl space in South Carolina (I mention local for humidity) The manufacturers instructions call for Bostik's Best adhesive INSTEAD of felt paper. (in addition to nailing) The Bostiks is supposed to be the moisture barrier. Would felt plus Bostiks be even better? Also, I was thinking of face nailing with cut nails, would this eliminate the need for adhesive, and if I used adhesive and face nailed down the road would that also be ok? Thanks for any advice,.....

For face-nailing to be effective in this case, one must locate the floor joists and nail through the flooring and OSB sub flooring and into those joists. You can glue now and add nails later. Neither the 15 lb. asphalt felt paper or Bostik's are moisture or vapor "barriers". If there is a moisture problem under the home, that must be dealt with prior to the installation.

I suppose one could apply a thin coat of adhesive, glue the felt down, then apply more adhesive to glue the flooring down. However, this is not typically done over wood sub floors. It is usually either/or. I would recommend skipping the felt and having the flooring glued and blind nailed. If you want to add decorative cut nails to the face, you could do so at any time.
