I'm doing a glue down at my house and needed to know.

I was at this house about 4 month ago and saw the Wood Flooring guys doing a glue down and using a white hammer to POUND! The crap out of it.

And was wondering why? Were they hitting it straight down when they were hitting it? Or at an angle? Or both?

I thought " Man, if it's for making sure the board gets good contact with the glue why not use a 100 lbs roller... and so on. I know  I should of asked, but they were moving fast and had no time for questions.

If you can Help me. I welcome it
Thanks
Roman

I have to grab the rubber mallet, when I get to the end of a section I have spread adhesive, and it is starting to set up with a grab. The mallet moves the board. Your not suppose to beat it though, that can cause finish blimishes, and delamination. All it takes is a little persuasion, not a beating.

Floorguy Thanks for the info. Question, are you tapping it straight down or is it more of an angle? And can I use a white hammer mallet at HomeDepot or Lowes to do this with?

Thanks
Roman

With the face of the mallet flat with the board, but as it hits, pull to you my other hand/ palm is pushing the direction I want it to go, also. I only use it if I'm work on top of my work. Working off and across the glue, I can usually get it with the palms of my hand and pushing. Pulling with your finger tips, while working on top is painful after a few hundred feet, and you get glue on your fingers more frequently.
