just wondering why it is good to let the floor sit in the room where it is being installed for 6-8 weeks before insallation

That is just to be sure it has gained or lost moisture content(let it shrink or swell) so it won't gap or buckle after the installation.

They say 6-8 weeks, because they don't have a moisture meter, or know what they were looking for if the did own one.
