I just installed Bruce White Oak Floors and would like to add area rugs in a few rooms to augment the floors. However, I've heard that hardwood floors fade over time. I am concerned that if I put down area rugs, there will be noticeable lines on the floor if fading occurs. I've also heard that white oak doesn't fade that much over time as compared to other hardwood species. My rooms are not in direct sunlight, but do get light (one room has blinds while the other room does not have blinds). Any information or experience with this matter would be appreciated.

I am no hardwood flooring expert but my understanding is that wood darkens over time with exposure to light and oxygen. I don't think it's so much fading, as you mentioned, as darkening. I think it's also more pronouced with exotic wood.

When you put a rug down the areas around will darken but if you remove the rug that area that has not been exposed to light and oxygen will "catch-up" as soon as it's exposed.
