Hi there,

We've built a new home and have unfinished camphor pine (spruce?) on the second floor. I'm looking for the best finishing option.

It is just my husband and I, so traffic should be somewhat low (although we are dog people). We live in a moderate climate that can get humid in the summer.

I'd like:
-as low-tox as possible
- durable
- at least moderately easy to apply
- protect the natural color of the wood (we won't be using stain)
- quality without breaking the bank

My current conclusion is that water-based polyurethane for floors is our best option.

I was sold on Minwax, but their WBP is not available here (might be able to special order through HD or Lowe's). I'm now looking at Cabot's WBP, since it is available locally. Our local selection is limited b/c we live a bit "out there."

Does anyone with experience have any tips or thoughts on the best product options?

Thanks!
Karen

If your going to go through the trouble of waterbased, the products your listing are not that well of quality and durability for foot traffic of any kind.

Bona - Traffic

Basic Coatings - Street Shoe

Last-n-Last - 1500

My vote is for BASIC
two coats of EMULSION to bring out the colour of the wood, followed by one coat of STREETSHOE for durabitity.
If you add about one cup of water to the Streetshoe, it flows and levels perfectly, with no streaks.VOC is 275

Hi,

Thanks for this info. I'll look into the products mentioned and get back with any other questions.

In the meantime, I also have tung and groove walls and ceilings to finish. Again, I'd like a low VOC product. Any thoughts on that as far as a finish (no stain)?

Thanks!
Karen
