I'm going to get my hardwood floors refinished and I'm totally confused about which finish to put on my floors. I live in a very old log cabin. We live in my house, it's not a museum. I have grandchildren, dogs and just generally everyday living. So we will have scratches from time to time. I realize that. My question is I've been offered 3 different finishes. Gloss, Semi gloss, satin. I've been told that the satin is just a gimmeck and would have to be refinnished again in about 5 years. That it doesn't hold up very well. Is that true? I don't think I want gloss? Help!!

IMO, I think the satin sheen will show scratches less. Alsop, it looks less "plasticy". There was a time when we were told gloss was more durable than satin. But that isn't true anymore. With a professional quality floor finish, all sheen levels are equally durable. Choose the one you like the appearance of.
