We currently have carpeting throughout our entire upstairs(including the stairs). We would like to put new carpet in the bedrooms, and hardwood in the hallway and stairs. My question is which s/b installed first? I'm afraid of doing the hardwood first because then the carpet installers will be walking all over it when they install the bedroom carpet.

Is there a logical progression so that where the hardwood meets the carpet looks good? I thought I would check first with the pro's to see if this matters before moving forward.

Install hardwood first. If it is a site finished flooring the final coat could be applied after the carpet is installed.

By installing the hardwood first the carpet guys will have something to finish to. They will want that, and any professional will understand how to work around a new hardwood floor.
