Hi. I have a problem - I cannot find any 1-1/2" unfinished solid Beech flooring. I have an old house that has Beech. We are about to remove an in-the-floor gravity heater and will need to patch a small section. I know this is solid 3/4" thick Beech as I pulled up a part of another room - and we installed Beech in the rest of the house. But that was 12 years ago and now no one seems to carry 1-1/2" unfinished Beech. I don't need a lot - I would prefer not having to purchase a large order. Is there some place that carries old flooring? I love our floors and I would like to keep them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

You may just have to make it or have it made. if you just need 3-4 sf no one is going to give you the time of day unless you are willing to shell out some ridiculous price. One other option would be to rob it from a closet and replace the hidden part with something else.

Do you have any idea as to where, what store I can even make the request? As to a closet, we don't have enough to make it worthwhile. Thanks

I'm not that kind of homeowner - don't have the tools or the knowhow to do that. I'll keep looking. Thanks for the suggestion.

A lot of the time that is what a mill will do with a custom order anyways. Then you pay for the larger size then they charge you for the set up and custom milling, I just went through that with some siding for my house. So depending on how much you need It may be an excuse to buy a new tool or two, if you think you will ever need them again.

I am continually trying to get things out of my small house - not bring anything in. Especially something that I might use once and then not again - maybe never. So, not going to happen. I just want the beech flooring, milled and ready to install. I have one lead, they want me to purchase 200 sq feet - not sure how much it will cost but if it is at all reasonable, that's what I'll buy. If someone else has another suggestion, as Dumbo would say: "I'm all ears." Thanks.

You best bet would be a used building materials store, contacting a local hardwood guy, or posting an ad in the wanted section of Craigslist. If you have a closet that has this flooring in it, then you also possibly remove it from there.

Go to http://www.nationalhardwoodflooring.com/ and call the 800 number at the top of the home page. We have 3/4" x 1 1/2" Unfinished Solid Beech flooring, but we don't have it listed on the site yet, so you'll have to call for a quote.

Actually, I made a mistake in my post and I couldn't find a way to correct it. I'm looking for 1/2" x 1 1/2" solid beech, not 3/4". Do you have that as well? If not, if I put in a thinner sub-floor, could I use the 3/4" thick product? Thanks,
