I have a new home that is nearing completion. I am having engineered, lightly scraped, 5" oak plank flooring. I have a staircase with a switch back landing. I want wood on the treds (no carpet) with the risers painted white. How should the treds be done? The floor guy was going to use the same flooring on the treds with stair nose pieces that didn't match in color to the flooring. I thought that would look bad. I'm thinking that one whole piece of oak should be used on the tred and stain it to look close to a match with the floor. I guess the same for the landing. What would you recommend? The staircase is in the center of the home and should be the showcase so I want it to look good.

Solid treads look best and are considered a more desirable product. I would go with a stained solid tread.

Solid Treads ... deffinitely. T&G treads are o.k I guess, but solid is the way to go if it is going to be a showcase.

In order to achieve what the competition cannot grasp, we must complete what they will not attempt. Nobody ever said it would be easy, but it's darn sure worth it.
