I will be installing hardwood floors around a wooden kitchen island. I am wondering what you guys usually do. Currently there's carpet on the dining room side and linoleum on the kitchen side so there isn't any trim around it. Would you use the same baseboard that's around the sheetrocked walls, quarter round or maybe a baby threshold?

Depending on the cabinet of the island and the finish, I would get a trim piece that either goes with or coordinates with the cabinet...NOT the floor.

Base boarding the island cabinet is definitely NOT the way though.

I typically use what is refered to as baseshoe. It looks similar to quarter round except it is taller than it is wide. Have it match the cabinet wood and NOT the floor.
