I am about to put down hardwood flooring in my condo and I want to find out the best glue to use considering price in the equation also. To give you as much information as possible, here goes. Concrete subfloor on 27th floor of buidling so I should not have a moisture problem. Underlayment I am using is rolled cork 6mm by 4' wide. Flooring is solid bamboo (5/8"x3-3/4").

What type of glue (manufacturer and model number) do I use to glue down the cork? What type of glue (manufacturer and model number) do I use to glue down the bamboo to the cork? The instructions say to use Roberts 1407 glue for the bamboo, but reading in the newsgroups and listening to the folks at Home Depot, it sounds like that glue is not good. Roberts 1408 is supposedly better (much more expensive), but is it worth it? How about Bostik (sp?) or any other manufacturer?

I am new to putting in hardwoods so all of your help and direction is greatly appreciated.

Scott

I used Bruce Everbond to glue down my bamboo in my old townhome that I bought from H*, and it seemed to work fine. But I glued mine down directly to the concrete. I'm not sure why you're gluing down the cork first, then bamboo over the top of it. I thought you were supposed to glue it down directly to concrete, and maybe use a moisture barrior if necessary.

On a side note, I'd think twice about using bamboo. It scratches very easily, and it's not good for much abuse. If you have pets or kids, you'll be sorry you every put bamboo down. But it does look nice and it's cheap to buy.

Thanks for the FYI on Roberts and Bruce glue. As far as glueing cork down first, part of our condo requirements is to put down an underlayment for noise reduction to our neighbors. Actually, we are not supposed to glue the floor down and should have a floating floor, but I do not like the hollow sound of a floating floor. I was able to glue the wood down if I glued an underlayment first and cork appeared to be best for that. I have the wood and cork already (no kids, no pets).

Are there any other glues available to use that are recommended?

I used the Bruce Everbond because is was about $70 for a big bucket, and I could by it at my local big chain store.

Bostiks is probably the #1 choice for glueing down flooring for professionals, but it's a bit more expensive at 100+ for the same size container.

I think think it depends on what type of flooring you're using, but the glue is just as important as the flooring.

My townhome was 3 plus years old, and I didn't have any excessive moisture problems. I was pretty new to the flooring game and did it with a friend, and really didn't know much about the pros and cons of different types of adhesives. The local H* was jus the easiest place for me to go.

I would make sure that you can glue down bamboo to the cork flooring. Some glues are meant to be directly on concrete, and you can have a buckling disater with flooring coming up if you don't read the directions properly.

Bostiks does make a product MVP(?) barrior that's supposed to be a noise reducer as well as mositure barrior.
