Hi,

I recently moved into a place with hardwood flooring so I'm a bit new to this. Unfortunately my family (whom I don't live with) also know little/nothing about this so it appears they may have carelessly damaged my floor (last night when my mom was basting the thanksgiving turkey, I'm guessing?).

Anyway, here's the picture.

I am pretty sure this was due to grease since it wasn't there before and I am always very careful to clean up spills asap. Who would think I would neeod to babysit my own mom to make sure she didn't spill/not clean up while cooking (I know I didn't...).

Wow... ummmmm thanks for your entirely useless reply. No offense... also the US isn't the only country that celebrates thanksgiving (haha, again, wow). Canada doesn't celebrate it the same day, and not even the same month.

It doesn't even look like anyone tried to clean it. Idf so, what was the method of cleaning?

Well, I did try to clean it, with a swiffer (using the solution for hardwood floors). It did exactly nothing. Whatever was spilled seems to be caked on, or it kinda messed up the finish on the floor.

The drippings may have been very hot and scalded the finish . Not sure but you said that you tried to clean it already.I might suggest trying a more aggressive cleaner.Maybe even a kitchen type de greasing cleaner. Maybe some windex or whatever you have. If you try this, put some cleaner / de greaser on a rag and carefully wipe just the affected boards.

if no cleaner works, the boards will have to be touched up with some fine abrasive and possibly need to be re coated.

Looks like a prefinished product. How about a Mr. Clean Magic eraser

Plastic ice scraper and some warm water on a well rang out wash cloth!
