We just had a floor refinisher strip off the linoleum down to the hardwoods in our home in Oklahoma. It was a mess. Lots of sanding. He applied the stain, then poly coated, scuffed, poly coated, scuffed, then applied the last 3rd coat of poly. Anyways, its only been 1 week and every time the light catches these blotches it stands out to me. There are 2 separate spots, one in the walkway and one that is lighter by the door. Is that bare wood? Is it buffed poly he missed? I don't really want to call him back out...I just wanted to know can I touch it up with a foam brush in those areas, or is that something else? Thanks so much..please comment away

well the 1st and 2nd picture i assume your reffering to is the dull spot, that is where the finish didn't take. How many coats of finish were applied?

Honestly it looks like it's just a really cheap finish. Which depending you you hired or tried "geting a deal" then thats to be expected.

Last picture is from a finish sander. Could of either been a random orbital or a oscilating sander.. most likley a random orbital. So those are stuck in the floor and would have to be sanded out.

If your trying to touch up the spots, its not that easy, Using a different finish will be noticeably different and you can't just dab it on or it will dry as a dab.

I'd ask him to apply another coat, best way to fix those dry spots, looks like he just missed places or applied finish too thin. Some professionals can apply finish in a small area and get it to blend, almost never works perfectly though. He may want to try that first, if you see the repair ask for a re-coat.
As stated, the sander marks in pic. #3 are in the wood, gotta be sanded out, which is even more difficult to do without leaving evidence of a repair.
