My husband and I had hardwood floors installed roughly 6 months ago. They are very dark....to dark...so bad that anyone walking barefoot leaves horrid oil marks. They only look noce the minute after I have cleaned them with BONA. I can't live with them...we have four young kids and they look terrible all of the time. They were prefinished and its almost like it a constant film. Is sanding and refinishing an option? Would a different "finish" prevent the awful greasy look they always have? We are so clueless. I just cannot believe we saved all these years and they are just so awful.

I'm sure the refinish will help. You may chose lighter stain and plus even the very basic finish like oil based poly (3 coats) would be a big relief. No more feet marks, no more painful cleaning.
