I just bought a new house and the living room and kitchen is a weird stone like tile, maybe outdoor tile. I was going to attempt to clean and polish until I can get some nice hardwood. Also not sure how hard it would be to remove. Anyone know what this is?

If the tile has a bed it will take lots of work to remove the tile and then add another layer of plywood to get up to the height of the surrounding sub-floor. It may be stuck to Hardibacker type underlayment, which is not as involved.
