We are strongly considering purchasing a home, and I do believe the beautiful floor is what sold us on it!

When we revisited the house one last time to decide upon making an offer, we kicked up the area rugs, and found this...

Each and every area rug, big or small, long or wide, has this same discoloration in the exact size and shape of each rug! What happened?? We were thinking the entire floor would have to be refinished, but someone mentioned that it might have something to do with the patina and that exposing it to the air and light for a few months would bring those areas to the darker color of the uncovered spots. This sounds bizarre to me, but maybe it's true? I have no idea when the floor was last finished, but it looks to be in beautiful condition except for everywhere there is a rug. Any ideas??

That's exactly correct. Very common photosynthesis caused by ultra violet rays. When these areas are exposed to light, they will blend in with the rest of the floor eventually. Beautiful floor. From the looks of the amount of light in the home, it shouldn't take long.

Cool chair, really sharp with the floor, go for that chair in your offer!

those rugs probally went down the day the floor did, it will catch up once left uncovered could take 6-9 months varies on light exposure. Thats why braz cherry and other photosynsitive woods a tough sell, noone wants to wait to put the rugs down.

Wow, well, I was totally ignorant to this. Thanks for clearing that up. Here I thought we were going to have to refinish 1000 sq ft!

Will it catch up to look exactly the same, or will it always be a little off?

Even if they were refinished, I'll bet that shadow line would still show.
