Hi.

1. I am renting.
2. This happened (see pics and video)
3. My landlord says it's my fault.
4. I beg the differ.
5. What is causing this?

He says I made the wood wet. I say I didn't. It seems to me that this is coming from bellow, not above.

Will say more if needed.

THANKS!!!

I doubt its your fault. Id say its over a damp crawlspace, go under the house and look for signs of moisture/condensation. That floor looks like you have some major water under the house. It usually takes a lot of water to make it buckle and heave in the middle.

Definitely water you would know if it was from above cause you would have been walking in a puddle.

Thank you for the replies! Really appreciate it.

I am adding more pics - these are trying to capture what's underneath.

Hope this helps

What do you think? Mainly, does it still look like the problem is from bellow?

Thanks

I would say it's more like a water leak from the fridge or another appliance that just worked it's way, you can see the water damage on the plank subfloor.

give more details ..what floor are you on> is there a basement> is the visible water in it or crawl space?

buckling like this ia water in pure form only.

it could be coming in from a wall, window. I also see staining in the flooring.,.its seems been taking water for a while.

to me it looks like it got flooded but if you say no, then only a running leak would do this..

Is this over a concrete subfloor? If so does it have a 3/4" plywood that it is nailed to. If this is coming from below you should have noticed the floor cupping prior to it buckling. Moisture readings of the hardwood and plywood subfloor will pretty well determine if coming from below. As stated above if this is over a crawlspace take a look if no visible water puddling get some one to take moisture readings of the floor joists to further support where it is coming from. When did you first notice it and how long did it take to buckle as bad as this? Do you have refrigerated air or evaporative cooling? Has this house been closed up for a long time without ventilation? What part of the country are you located in?
This looks like a pretty expensive proposition you might want to contact an nwfa inspector to determine the cause.
