We have about 800 sq. ft. of this to install in our upstairs (I got it because it was cheap and I knew that my kids will trash this floor pretty quickly. So, when I have to replace it in 5 years, I won't feel bad.) I'm wondering how to install it. The Bostitch MIIFS we used on teh 3/4" hardwood just splits this wood (it's engineered Kempas). A friend also tried another stapler (not sure which one) and didn't get good results.

Here's the wood (I believe I paid $1.75 a sq. ft!): http://www.bonitafloors.com/hardwood/wo ... llaIII.htm

I see that this page said it's a glue down installation. I know it didn't say that when I ordered it. Is that my only option? Yes, we can glue it down, and were considering doing that anyway due to the issue with the staples.

I should add, this is going over 3/4" OSB flooring on a second floor.

You need a floor runner type stapler, that shoots a 1" long 3/16-1/4 crown, 18-20 gauge staple.

Awesome, I'll look those up. Hubby wants to just use the glue, but I don't think he realizes just how messy it is!

If you think about the future, stapling this floor will make it much easier to remove down the road. Be cautious though of surface dimpling, especially if the veneer surface is very thin.
One way to reduce the appearance of these staple dimples is to align the floor parallel to the natural light source(s).
We have had sucess with the Bostitch floor runner, and the Primatech Q550. Powernail makes a 250 nailer which may also work for you.

A 21 ga staple also helps to eliminate the dimples .

We found the Porta-Nailer at a local place and they let us test it. Worked great! Hubby will be working on the flooring over the next 2 weeks.

Thanks everyone!
