Patagonian Rosewood is the common name for a south american hardwood, the botanical name being Piptadenia macrocarpa. As for it's hardness, some say 2800 psi on the Janka scale while others say 3840 on the Janka scale.
http://www.jfloor.com/Products.htm Either way, it is harder than Braz. cherry, considerablely. Braz. cherry used to cost more when it was first introduced for flooring but as it has become a commodity item, sometimes I've been able to obtain it for less than red oak. So I would expect as demand and supply increases, the price of the Patagonian Rosewood will come down somewhat. Check out this site for more info on exotics.
