I was looking at flooring vids on you tube and was wondering what a end joint is ? what are they for or why do they occur?

what makes a good one and what makes a bad one..

just curious !

Unless I am mis-understanding the question, an end joint is the junction of two boards along the run of a row of flooring.
A good end joint will be tight and squae, and no closer than twice the width of the floor you are using, from an adjoining joint in the next or previous run of floor.
They should also be staggered in a random nature to prevent the development of a pattern or step-like appearance.
Nailing along the length of the boards, you should be no more than 3 inches from the joint itself with your first nail (cleat or staple)
It is also important to avoid an "H" pattern of joints, this is not only unattractive, but structurally unsound as well.
