We need to put in a new front door assembly, but we also want to put in wood floors (currently it is just really cheap carpet). My husband and I don't agree as to which should come first, the new door or the new floor. My thought is that the floor should come first because the door can always be raised/lowered to meet up with the floor. My husband worries that if we put the floor in first, the new door will not match up with the cuts or transistions the installers may do to accomodate the old door. Any thoughts on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Lori

If you don't do the new door first, where are you going to end the flooring. Seems you would need the door removed and then installed the floor, leaving an open hole, till finished, and then install the door.

Install the new door first, taking into account, the floorings finished height.

I understand what you are saying, but it is not very practical for us to have the door out until the floor is finished being installed. Especially since of the cost for both projects makes it so that we cannot do both at the same time. I just thought maybe we could take the interior trim off of the door and then the door would essentially be flush with the wall. Then, the wood floor would just be even with the wall all the way across the width of the door. If that makes sense.

Your new front door should come with a threshold that will be mounted flush on the floor (as long as the floor is level). If the inside threshold is not thick enough for the wood floor you are installing, you can "cheat" a little by adding a run of plywood under the door before you install it - but be sure you are low enough on the top of the door for the headder. Leave the inside trim off until you install the floor to the door, then install the inside door trim down to the top of the floor.

Thanks for the logical answer and the tip about the plywood if we need to raise the door.
