My wife and I would like to buy engineered wood floor to go in our living room. We are on a concrete slab. Rather than glue down, I am thinking it would be better to go the floating subfloor route and nail. My concern is over brand and how they hold up to pets. We have a couple cats. I realize all wood floors will scratch and dent. We have actually been liking how the handscraped varieties look and feel any scratches would blend in better with that kind. I was looking at the flooring on lumberliquidators site until I read on here to stay away from them due to not so great reviews. We would like to stay at $4 or less a square foot. What are some brands that are preferred given our needs? There are so many choices out there it is very confusing.

Stick with name brand American manufacturers, there's a couple good Canadian ones as well.
