I'm a weekend warrior, home DIY guy and plan to screen and buff my 10 year old wood floors then apply a water based finish. I can pick up minwax or varathane at the local home store, but wonder if anyone has any experience with these products. Is there a different product you'd recommend? Thanks for the help.

MY opinion . . . if you were doing floors professionally then you might consider the personal consideration
given to (what the pro calls, open time, flow, & what tool to apply with) . . . . read the instruction given

and I'm sure you'll be happy with the results. dan@pro

Nearly all water based finishes will be harder to work with than oil based because water based finishes dry so fast. Oil is more forgiving . So make sure you really want to do water based.

If you are sure you want to go with water base then consider a good one like Basic Coatings street shoe.I recommend it because it's one of the better water borne finishes and can be applied by brush and roller. You can use a 1/4" nap roller (purdy is excellent) for the field and cut in with a brush. The other common finish applier would be a 9 or 10 inch trim pad. These can be a pain in the butt because you are basically going to drag it across the floor and snow plow the finish. I personally don't like that method very much unless i am coating a small area and the flooring is tight.

As for finish quality , I have never applied the minwax water based finishes but have never heard anything promising about them.I hope that helps

I would recommend a sanding sealer followed by Bona Traffic Waterbased finish
