Hi again everyone!

The room I am working on is 13 x 15. Taking the advice of the experts here, I have decided to install on the longer (15') side. So, I have measured the room and it is not perfectly 15'. At one end I measured 14' 11.75" and at the other end it is 15' 1" approximately. So we have a difference of approx. 1.25 inches. If I start against one of the walls, when I get to the last run of boards it will look odd.

What is recommended?

Thanks in advance!
Mike

Wow! Your sure on the measurements?? The walls off that much !?

Hopefully your installing wide planks.
Best thing to do is split the difference. Chalk lines and be off 5/8" on both walls. Try and have as close to full planks as possible , at the walls. That's still quite a bit to be off. Your sure about that measurement ??
OR consider installing on a diagonal. OR the opposite direction.

I will re-measure in the morning. I thought it seemed alot too. Of course, the wood I purchased is narrow - I believe 2 3/4. I figured splitting the difference would be the way to go - but was not sure since I am a first timer!

Tour best bet is to split the difference, go straight off one wall and load the opposite one with furniture so you will never see it.
A few years ago I was doing floors for a builder putting up a 55 and older community, and had no choice but to start off the marble fireplace with a picture frame, by the time I got to the opposite wall it was off over 5 inches I lost 2 1/2 rows with 2 1/4 inch boards and these townhouses were going for more then $500,000.

Certain tracks out here it's amaizing how far walls can be off , or from one room to another. It's common to see a 2' pony wall off 1/2", or running from say a living room into a kitchen, the kitchen is out of square 1" from the living room. You have to really take some time on layout to camoflauge the best you can. I dont know how they let the builders get away with that . I could never live in one of those houses, it would drive me crazy !

Pretty common out here as well. Whats really annoying is when hallways are off like that!

first old house i did, walls in hall bowed out by over 100mm at points and the the hall widened as you walked its length by 70mm over 6m length. my way was to string a line to suit the eye and then cut the starting boards to suit this line. 120mm x 18mm oak floor at points full width at others ripped to 20mm to follow this line and allow the flooring to look straight. the only give away is if you look at the skirting (base board).
