My old carpet padding is the waffle variety. How do I remove the residue!!?? I pulled up the carpet and in some places it comes up without a problem, in other places it is stuck. If I get down to the last film of residue, it comes up wihout damage to the old floor finish -- I'd like to get this all of before my kids come to visit this weekend, but it's a nightmare!

We have allergies and asthma, which is why I want to remove the carpets, but sanding and many goo-removal products can aggravate the condition!

What (if anything) can I do in a fast, effective way?

HELP!
