Is it OK to use my brand-new vapor steamer on my wide plank
pine newly refinishe (2 months) wood floor. Water content is advertised to be low. I dial the pressure down to approx. 35 psi. The floor dries in about 5 minutes with no residue because no chemicals are used.

Or should I keep using my Murphy oil soap?

Regard All
Joe

I cant advise you on the vapor steam cleaner. (I would guess no would be the answer) But I dont know what you are talking about exactly.

But I can say I suggest not using murphys oil soap. I avoid advising customers to use that because of the waxy build up it leaves behind

Steam may open the finish.
Murphy's oil will not react properly with the finish.

Please read manufacturer's maintenance or view maintenance instructions at : www.nofma.org

I have not done any test but this is what i can speculate for now. Super heated water vapor would cause the wood to swell if it is allowed to get to the unproteced wood. Of course on a new floor thats nice and tight you probally will be ok, but as soon as it settles and small cracks form they will allow water/steam to reach the unfinished side of the board and swelling will happen...
