I am looking to do an engineered floor over a concrete slab that is 3 yrs. old and previously had carpet. Any suggestions as to which floating system is best? One that has a pad and vapor barrier attached, or one where I put down a seperate vapor barrier and pad before installing the engineered flooring? Also, any suggestions as to which mfg. is best and/ or easiest to use? Thanks for the help!

There is not a wood or laminate made, that has a vapor barrier attached. Cushion, yes. But to have a vapor BARRIER, it must be sealed so no vapors can pass by it. By being attached to the bottom of the plank, how are you going to completely seal the edges of the vapor barrier together. Your not.

A vapor barrier is a continuous, memberane with a high perm rating.

The attached cushion is better at helping reduce or eliminate that hollow resonance associated with a floating floor over separate cushion.

so which is better to use? the attached pad or unattached? Also, could you recommend a mfg. and product for this application?
