New house has nice 3 1/4'' pre-finished flooring downstairs, but I'm considering using a slightly different finish color for upstairs master and hallway.

Is this ever "done"...? Will it look strange, or should I just use the same wood as already exists downstairs?

I'm worried that it might be too much of a good thing to use the same color so extensively.

Using the same color of flooring throughout has a unifying appeal. Would you choose different carpet colors? But it is a matter of personal taste. Is it ever done? I'm sure it is. Just about anything you can think of has been done. Is it is fashoin? Ask a interior designer.
