Use Carpet Padding??

Newbie here, obviously. :-)

We are taking up carpet over concrete slab and I was wondering, hey, we have padding, can't we just install our hardwood over the existing padding??
So, can we? :-)

I'm 99.99% sure the answer is no, but I'll let one of the experts confirm that. Why would you want to install it over padding? Is it being a bear to rip up?

What style of hardwood? I thought I saw that the tongue & groove click stuff can be installed on top of stuff, but put up some more information so that someone can come along accurately answer your question for you.

The padding is glued to the concrete, with 1970 limonlum (sp) and I was under the impression that when you do a floating floor, you put padding down first. Not sure if it is different padding or since it was a floating floor I could just use what is already there.

Much different padding. 3/8 difference in thickness and less give under foot.
