I have a situation where there is ceramic installed in an area (garage entry way, laundry room etc) which is higher than some new pre-finished hardwood that was installed, even after underlayment. Long story as to how it happened, but I can't afford to have the ceramic ripped out and re-installed lower.

The ceramic is about 1/4 inch higher than the hardwood at this point. We left a 1" gap at the hallway entry for a T-molding between the hardwood and ceramic, but it is so high on top the ceramic that it has become a trip hazard when walking from there to the hardwood.

Any ideas on how to handle this in a way that the transition from the higher ceramic to the lower hardwood would be less noticeable and less of an issue when traversing it?

many thanks

1/4" is not a large variation for a T-moulding to span, do it all the time, with no tripping hazard. The trick is to just barely catch the edge of the tile, so it's more of a gradule slope.

If your stuck on getting rid of the T-moulding....You can fill in that 1"gap, and mill yourself a 1/4" reducer, flush with the tile, tappering down to the wood. You can even make one with a T-moulding, by cutting off the leg and ripping one side.

Many thanks for the ideas and info. It makes sense, and will get me working on how to do this better than I have so far.
I appreciate the feedback.
