Just had a local floor sanding professional complete sanding and finishing my Hall floor. When I start to look closely, I am not sure that the finish is as professional as I would expect. Having never studied a floor so closely before, I'm not sure however whether I'm expecting too much.
The floor was of victorian pine boards with a "nice" orange stain. Prior to work starting, 3 boards were replaced and all gaps were filled with pine slivers cut from reclaimed boards.
The floor was sanded on the first day, and then on the second day, Bona Intense was applied and then two coats of Bona Mega.
The first issue I noticed was debris in the first coat of Mega. Not only was dust falling off the unvacuumed skirtings but there also appeared to be other bits stuck in the finish. I pointed this out when the second coat was due to be applied but was told that this wasn't a problem and that it would most likely "kick out" with use. I also suggested vacuuming before applying the second coat but was told that this would damage the finish.
Now that the job is finished, the debris is still apparent stuck under the second coat of Mega. In addition, there appears to be a patch in the centre of the hall at the bottom of the stairs which has not had a second coat. The second coat also puddled in places, admittedly some at the edges which are not so obvious.
On closer inspection I have also discovered that around the edge of the floor, there are patches which are still rough to the touch.
I have already raised my concerns with the company which I employed and they are coming to take a look. However, as it is likely that it will be the same person who presumably left the job satisfied with the result that will be coming to review the job, I would appreciate any advice as to whether my concerns are valid.
Thanks in advance for any advice you may have.
