Hi all,

Redoing a small den which has 3/4" red oak. Reason for doing it over was past owner must of had a dog or cat and there are urine stains. I'm able to save many of the boards as they are long in length. I will patch in new boards as needed.

I have attached some pics. As you will see it is a 3/4" plank subfloor which I believe is fir. Initially I was going to rip it up and put 3/4 ply down, but when I saw how good a condition the subfloor was I elected not to do that.

I''m looking to do the following:

1 - Repair any of the subfloor which is damaged. Only a couple places
2 - screw down the entire subfloor
3 - Put down Aquabar B
4 - Apply the 3/4" unfinished floor with cleats. My gun can also take staples. Not sure which would be best in this application.
5 - Maybe an inlay around the fireplace hearth.

Any suggestions/advice?

I like staples. Typically a single board mitered frame surrounds the fireplace.

As per our work experience you should go by applying 3/4" unfurnished floor with cleats. It will help you out.
