We have a 3-story townhouse in the San Francisco Bay Area for which the first floor is on a concrete slab. We want to change the current carpet to hardwood flooring, and we would like to do the finishing on site to ensure the smoothest surface. However, would this be difficult to do on concrete? I heard that only engineered wood floors can go over concrete and these floors almost never come without a factory finish.

I've also went to a few flooring shops in the bay area and it seems most shops prefer to sell floors with factory finishes these days. Can anyone recommend a shop that still specialize in installing unfinished flooring and finishing it on site?
