Hi, I recently purchased my 1st home and had a contractor installed 3/4" Brazilian cherry on the first 2 floors. Alas, the subfloor on the first level is uneven with elevation on both side and dipping in the middle. The contractor simply installed the floor and now it looks like a wave; the sight is especially obvious against the light.... I would like to know what should have been or could have been done to level the subfloor before he installed the floor. I came back home from out of state and the contractor insisted he had to go with how the subfloor is shaped..... can anything be done to correct the prob now? Thanks for all your help and time in responding to my questions! :D

With the degree of irregularity showing in that photo; I dont think there are many options besides removing the floor, flattening the subfloor, and re-installing. Certainly it is severe enough that its not going to go away on its own, nor would I imagine you would ever get used to it.

Looking at this picture , I think i see the right side getting a lot higher . It seems that your sub floor and the joists under it are way out of flat. There's nothing an installer can do about this . Optimally, he would have noticed this prior to installing your floor and warned you.

As Dennis mentioned, the issues in your hones structure need to be dealt with and that can be a significant task.

Thanks for the info. The area close to the nosing is elevated. That's where the 2 subfloor board meets over a beam. After this point the subfloor dives down and goes up again towards the window. Given this condition, it is possible to get the subfloor flattened?

Thanks
